Center for Excellence in Best Practices Zero to Five
| The Center of Excellence in Best Practices for Children Zero to Five is directed by Dr. Kimberley Lakes, Associate Director for Pediatric Health of the ICDFR. The vision of the center is, "To develop a Center of Excellence in Best Practices for Children Zero to Five as a home for culturally grounded, evidence-based core clinical services, evaluation, training, and research in order to protect and promote the well being of all children." The Center grew out of two early childhood intervention initiatives within the ICDFR: The Community University Initiative for the Development of Attention and Readiness, San Bernardino (CUIDAR-SB), and the START Pediatric Neurodevelopmental Assessment and Treatment Center (START PNATC). CUIDAR-SB focuses on the prevention of early childhood mental health disorders, and the START PNATC provides assessment and treatment for children who are already experiencing symptoms of mental health disorders. Together, the programs provide services that consistent with the NIMH Prevention framework of 1) Universal Prevention (CUIDAR-SB community-wide parent and teacher education), 2) Targeted Prevention (CUIDAR-SB parent-child intervention groups and preschool teacher consultation for children at risk for disorders), and 3) Selective Prevention (more intensive assessment and intervention services at the START PNATC for children already experiencing symptoms of mental health disorders. |
